Terms of service.
Last updated: April 19, 2026
Agreement
By downloading or using Rooteen or Rooteen Family (the "Apps"), you agree to these Terms of Service. The Apps are published by Patry, Québec, Canada.
If you disagree with any part of these terms, don't use the Apps. That's genuinely fine — privacy and data are personal choices.
Who can use Rooteen
Rooteen (the kids app) is designed for ages 8 to 13. Children under 13 should use Rooteen with the knowledge and consent of a parent or legal guardian. Pairing with Rooteen Family helps make that explicit.
Rooteen Family (the parent app) is intended for adults age 18+, operating on behalf of their own family.
Your content, your data
You own everything you create or record in the Apps — tasks, display names, progress, avatars chosen, badges earned. We don't claim any right to it.
Data is stored locally on your device and synced via Apple's CloudKit to your own iCloud account. See our Privacy Policy for specifics.
Acceptable use
Don't attempt to: reverse-engineer, decompile, or tamper with the Apps; impersonate another user on an anonymized leaderboard; use the Apps to harass, bully, or collect data on a child other than your own; automate requests or probe our infrastructure.
We reserve the right to revoke access or disable features if we have reasonable grounds to believe a user is violating these terms or applicable law. In practice, this has never happened; the Apps don't have user accounts to disable.
Rooteen Family Pro subscription
Rooteen Family offers a Pro subscription with the following standard auto-renewable-subscription terms, as required by Apple:
Title: Rooteen Family Pro.
Length and price: Monthly ($4.99 USD/month) or Annual ($39.99 USD/year). A lifetime one-time purchase ($89.99 USD) is also offered as an alternative to the subscription.
Features unlocked: multi-kid support (up to 5), Family Challenges, approval workflow, weekly digest, custom tasks, surprise badge sender. See the in-app paywall for the current feature list.
Payment: charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. The subscription automatically renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Renewal is charged within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the renewal price.
Managing and cancelling: subscriptions can be managed, and auto-renewal turned off, in the Subscriptions section of your Apple ID settings after purchase (Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions).
Free trial (if offered): any unused portion of a free trial period is forfeited if you purchase a subscription during the trial, as required by Apple.
Refunds: handled entirely by Apple, at Apple's discretion, via https://reportaproblem.apple.com. We do not process refunds directly.
Links: the Privacy Policy and these Terms of Service are accessible at https://getrooteen.com/privacy-policy and https://getrooteen.com/terms — also from the paywall screen itself.
Changes to the Apps
We may add, modify, or remove features over time. We try to preserve behaviour parents and kids rely on (your XP isn't going anywhere), but small UI changes are part of shipping software.
Material changes to subscription terms will always be communicated in-app and, where required, require your re-acceptance.
Disclaimers
The Apps are provided "as is." We do our best to keep them reliable, but we don't promise perfection.
Rooteen is not a substitute for parenting, medical advice, therapy, or any form of clinical intervention. If you're worried about a child's behaviour or wellbeing, talk to a qualified professional.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Patry is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Apps.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Québec, Canada. Disputes, where not resolvable amicably, are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the district of Québec.
